Noteworthy In the news today: #obamacare and the black vote
African American voters look to the federal government for solutions because too often they live in states that pass “Shoot First, Think Later” laws. A quick glance through the website of the Kaiser Family Foundation makes it abundantly clear that there is a strong connection between race, geography and health care outcomes. In states with large Black populations, state governments do as little as possible (the federal minimum in other words) for their citizens. So, it is no surprise that Black voters overwhelmingly support Obamacare.
It is clear that the individual mandate is legally sound. So sound, in fact, that Supreme Court insiders, even former law clerks for the five conservative justices think there is just a 35% chance the mandate is overturned.
